After working to improve your lawn all through the summer it can be difficult to just stand by and watch it turn brown during the winter months. Fortunately, with the following checklist, a few ingredients and a high quality Atlanta sprinkler installation, you can keep your lawn looking lush year round.

To get the project started you will need:

  • Lawn sprinklers
  • Fertilizer
  • Compost
  • Cool season grass seed
  • A rake
  • Power rake
  • A lawnmower
  • Trash bags
  • Seed spreader

Atlanta Sprinkler SystemsStep 1: When the grass starts to turn brown around mid fall, cut it very close to the ground. Be careful of the lawn sprinklers.

Step 2: A power rake looks a little like a weed whacker and they can be rented if you prefer not to buy one for the project.Set the power rake to a depth of 1-2 inches. Use it to remove the top layer of dead grass and debris.

Step 3: Use your standard rake to collect all of the debris and put it into the garbage bags.

Step 4: Put your cool season grass seed into your seed spreader. For a one thousand square foot lawn you will need a fifteen pound bag. Spread the seeds evenly over the lawn like you were cutting grass.

Step 5: Use your lawn sprinklers to soak the lawn until the top 3 inches of dirt is damp.

Step 6: Blanket your lawn in compost to cover over the seeds and stop animals from eating it.

Step 7: Water the lawn daily for a month. Once you start seeing the grass sprouts you can apply fertilizer.

Step 8: Keep applying the fertilizer once a month during the winter and cut your grass every other week until it reaches 3 inches.
